The West end of San Miguel County will be under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions effective 1201am Thursday, May 26, 2022 by order of Sheriff Bill Masters. The restrictions effect private lands in unincorporated areas of the Norwood and Egnar Fire Protection Districts. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands managed by the Tres Rios Field office are also under Stage I restrictions.
The East end of the county continues to show safe fuel level moisture and therefore, the Telluride Fire Protection District is not under these restrictions. That said, Sheriff Masters is encouraging everyone to be fire safe. “We need all of our residents and visitors to be careful, it’s going to be a dry summer.”
Under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions:
Campfires are only allowed within designated fire grates in developed campgrounds.
– No fires of any type.
– No smoking except within an enclosed vehicle, home or building.
– No use of explosive materials, including explosive targets.
– No welding or operation of an acetylene or other similar torch with open flame except an area that has been cleared of vegetation.
– No operation of any internal combustion engine without a spark-arresting device.
