At 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 22, the Payne fire was reported. The approximately 1 acre fire is located 5 miles east of the Divide road, ½ mile south of National Forest System Road #534, Roubideau Spur on the Uncompahgre National Forest, Montrose County.
Smoke from the human caused Payne fire on the Uncompahgre Plateau was visible from Montrose yesterday. Resources arrived late afternoon and were able to construct a line around the fire. No structures are threatened and no values are at risk at this time.
The fire was called 100% contained at 11:59 p.m., September 23. In the interest of public safety, fire officials ask to please avoid the area. Firefighter and public safety remain the priorities on this incident.
