Fire Restrictions Update for Montrose County
Effective Friday, September 5, 2025, at 0001 a.m., Montrose County will move from Stage 2 to Stage 1 Fire Restrictions.
This change, or “step-down,” is being made in coordination with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and with our neighboring counties to ensure consistency across the region.
Under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions:
• Open burning of any kind, including agricultural burns, is prohibited.
• Campfires are only allowed in designated fire rings within developed campgrounds.
• Fireworks remain strictly prohibited.
• Smoking is only permitted inside enclosed vehicles, buildings, or in areas at least three feet in diameter that are cleared of all flammable material.
The remaining restrictions are in place to help safeguard Montrose County, our communities, and natural resources during periods of elevated fire risk.
