For the safety of firefighters and the public, the GMUG’s Gunnison Ranger District has implemented a road closure in the vicinity of the Elk Fire.
 
The closure applies to National Forest System Road 7868 (Alpine Road), located in Hinsdale County between the Big Blue Trailhead and Highway 149. Some public maps display the route as Road 868.
